War Veteran PTSD Project

Human HyperFormance has put together a no-cost pilot program for war veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Emotional Freedom Technique, exercise and improving breathing mechanics have all been shown to be effective in treating war-generated PTSD.  By combining Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching and Optimal Breathing® Development with Emotional Freedom Technique™, results can be obtained that are greater than the sum of their individual effects.

The cost of caring for our returning veterans will likely equal or exceed the cost of the military action in the Middle East.  We want to do something.  There is no cost  for enrollment in the program for qualified clients.   Please call 518-727-6233 or email info@humanhyperformance.com to enroll or for more information.

Here is some background on our program.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is not a weakness or a failing.  It is a perfectly reasonable response to a perceived dangerous situation that has gotten generalized to other situations which do not pose the same dangers.  It is the result of the interplay among the individual's genetics, pre-trauma history, trauma history and post-trauma history.  It can be caused, or at least facilitated, by traumatic events experienced while young, which can alter the brain's biochemistry.

The stress response is the body's way of preparing for action to deal with a dangerous or threatening situation.  Used appropriately, it is useful, perhaps crucial, for survival.   But frequent and/or high level exposure to danger, can condition a person to expect danger and experience a stress response in situations where it isn't present or is unlikely.  This, essentially, is what happens with PTSD.

Some of the characteristics of the stress response include rapid, shallow, high chest breathing, conditioned muscle tension, higher pulse rate and diversion of blood from digestive organs.  The continued presence of these characteristics can itself serve as a stressor, predisposing the individual to respond to stimuli that otherwise might be ignored or interpreted as non-threatening.

Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching is used to dismantle the deep muscle tension.  By shortening the muscle and then forcing it to lengthen while resisting, the muscle is stretched through its full range of motion, releasing it sooner and more effectively than with other modalities.

Optimal Breathing Development is used to retrain breathing muscles and patterns, shutting down stress response breathing, which triggers the fight-or-flight response and stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system to produce the relaxation response.

Finally, Emotional Freedom Techniqe allows the client to substitute more accurate interpretations of non-threatening stimuli and more effective responses.

By dealing with inappropriate stress responses on both the physical and psychological levels the client becomes less likely to over-react, and more able to respond appropriately to non-threatening situations.
